Trust and the IEP Process with Dr. Vickie Larson Fairchild

Trust is often lacking in partnerships between parents and educators during the Individualized Education Program (IEP) process, and this lack of trust can negatively impact children with special needs. This workshop will dissect the aspects of a trusting relationship with parents: benevolence (perceived goodwill), reliability (keeping promises, following up, and following through), competence (demonstrating knowledge, expertise, and ability), honesty (transparent about positive and negative issues), and openness (real, present, willing to hear feedback and give feedback). Workshop attendees will also delve into the parent perspective on the IEP process. Overall, participants will gain awareness and skills necessary to improve their relationships with parents.

NOTE: This workshop will not be recorded. Registrants must attend the full live event to receive CEUs and/or a certificate of attendance.

Dr. Fairchild has worked as a teacher, counselor, and school psychologist at all levels of education—preschool, elementary school, middle school, high school, and post-secondary. She worked for SCUSD from 2000 to 2018, when Dr. Fairchild was elected to the Governing Board of the Santa Clara Unified School District. She was re-elected in 2022. Dr. Fairchild recently completed her Ed.D. through National University, and her qualitative study focused on developing trust in the IEP process.
